I'm African American. Can Someone explain tanning or sunburns to me?

I dont understand why people tan people dont really look any better with a tan.

I've never had a sunburn so what causes it and how does it feel

I'm African American. Can Someone explain tanning or sunburns to me?
You have a lot more melanin in your skin, which protects skin from the effects of ultraviolet radiation in sunlight. Exposure to sunlight activates whatever melanin is present in your skin, making it darker, and protecting it from burning.

If you are pale, you need to get a tan in stages. Spend maybe five or ten minutes a day in the sun for a few weeks. That will generally be enough to start activating the melanin in your skin and eventually result in a tan, which will allow you to spend progressively more time in the sun.

Touch a hot iron or hot stove, that's what sun burn feels like all over your body. If you've had a burn of any kind, that is what sunburn is. It can be mild or very bad, like a third degree burn. It is a real burn.

Very pale people have very little melanin and are more susceptible to sunburn and skin cancer. Those with freckles are probably the most susceptible, because their melanin is not evenly distributed.

Albinos have no melanin in their skin and can suffer severe burns or death with too much exposure to the sun. So when outdoors, you have a distinct advantage over lighter skinned individuals.
Reply:sunblock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [lol]
Reply:well... sunburn really hurts. and it feels like your skin is peeling (cuz usually it is) the sun causes it.
Reply:The sun causes it! The paler your skin, the quicker you burn. It feels hot and hurts to the touch and looks red. Sometimes your skin peels off afterwards. You have to use sun block. Even people with dark skin should use sun protection.
Reply:the sun dehydrates your skin....

that's why it peels...

and feels uncomfortable...

it hurts when it's a really bad sunburn...

just as bad as when you get burn from.. let's say the oven....

people tan because they don't like being too white....

simply a fashion thing
Reply:some people do look better with a tan, but tanning make some people look orange. but this is a good question, because i always wondered about sunburns to. it looks real nasty how the skin come off and stuff.
Reply:I am a pasty white chick and have been all my life.

My skin tone is not solid white...got some red splotches and other color splotches here and there.

I could wear face paint - I mean fondation - to smooth out my color - but before too long it just sweats off or looks unnatural.

If I had a tan, I think my skin tone will be an even color - which just looks healthier. And tan kind of has a its own glow to it and matches my blond hair color better.

So - all my life, I've been chasing a tan - especially for a big event like a wedding or prom or anytime I expect my picture to be taken.

But, since I am a pasty white chick, more often than not, my tanning attempts have ended up as sun burn.

Sun burns tighten your skin - so your face feels tighter when you smile or your elbow, knee and hip joints hurt when they stretch to move. Also, your nerves are right there on top of your skin - so any breeze or rubbing on your skin will also be felt.

That's my story anyway.
Reply:White people think they look better with a bronze glow. They get sunburned because they don't have any melanin in their skin to protect them from the sun. I guess. It hurts, stings, and is sensitive to the touch. They don't feel it when they are outside acquiring the burn, but the next day, they feel the hurt.
Reply:Time to go get the deer leg out of the kitchen now.
Reply:People tan because it makes them look thinner and also gives the skin a softer feel if not over tanned. Also, people tan because they don't want to glow in the dark.

I used to tan a lot to define my body when I worked out but I over exposed and tanned while I had toxins in my body which has caused me to not be able to tan at all now. When I tan now it is reversed...I get white spots and then it spreads.

Sunburn is caused from not using correct moisturizers and lotions to block the intense of rays that the sun gives off.

A little sunlight is fine in small amounts at a time but a lot of sun is bad for your skin causing it to burn a layer of skin causing it to hurt; which causes peeling and then could cause skin damage or skin diseases such as the worst cancer.
Reply:Be happy you've never gotten sunburn.....I like being pale, but I burn so easily. Ten minutes out in the sun and I'm a lobster unless I have sunscreen on. Even THEN I'm a littel pink haha.

One time I got sunburn in February. FE-BRU-AR-Y. And it's not even like I live in Florida. I'm from New Jersey hahaha.

You should probably still wear sunscreen though, because the sun will still do damage to your skin, even if it is not extremely noticable as mine is.

Sunburn only hurts if it's really deep/bad. Mine rarely hurts.
Reply:Sunburn is literally a burn on your skin. It is a burn from ultraviolet (UV) radiation. The consequence of this burn is inflammation of the skin. Injury can start within 30 minutes of exposure. Certain light-skinned and fair-haired people are at greater risk of sunburn injury.

Initially, your skin turns red about 2-6 hours after exposure and feels irritated. The peak effects are noted at 12-24 hours.

Mild and uncomplicated cases of sunburn usually result in minor skin redness and irritation. Untreated and with enough exposure, you can experience shock (poor circulation to vital organs) and even death (sun poisoning). Sufficient exposure can become remarkably painful.

Why people want a tan I don't know either. Some think they look better. I am a African Amer. also and I like my skin color the way it is even though I do tan some. I have experienced a slight sunburn which could have been worse if I didn't know when to take cover. Everyone is different though.

In the long run it will effect those who soak up to much, it causes premature aging as well.

God Bless.
Reply:Tanning is bad.

If you go to tanning beds,?

why do you go? I go for the tan, but it is so relaxing to me. YOU?

If you go to tanning beds,?
I go not just for the tan ,but to relax and take a 20 minute nap. When you have 5 kids it is the best thing to do to relax! And I also go because of my degenerative arthritis. it helps take the pain away. I always come out smiling and feeling so much better.
Reply:I think people look better with a little tan. Also it is soooo relaxing especially if you live in a cold area. It's a little peace of sunnyshine for 30 min. It also helps clear of skin acne...

How do you remove tanning spray?

i spray tanned myself for a school dance and now that its coming off its patchie and looks like shlt lol. how do i get it off??

(i used loreal sublime bronze spray.)

How do you remove tanning spray?
Exfoliate. Rub salt with olive oil on your body. It will scrub off the tan. Then shower of course.
Reply:you should definitily do it fast. um...baby oil works and go in the shower and scrub off gently not so hard or else you will hurt your skin...use soap,,oil, salt bath scrub
Reply:WELL NORMALLY IT JUST WASHES OFF BUT IF IT DOESN'T THEN GET SOME BUTTER, OLIVE OIL AND A LITTLE SALT. MIX ALL OF THEM TOGETHER AND RUB IT ONTO YOUR SKIN AND EXFOLIATE! I SHOULD COME OFF WITH EASE BUT IF IT DOESN'T TRY THIS SITE http://www.spray-tan-byron-bay.com/remov...

Vaseline Self tanning lotion VS Jergens tanning lotion?

Has anyone used both? Which has a less orangy color?

Vaseline Self tanning lotion VS Jergens tanning lotion?
Do you mean the tanning moisturizers? I found the Jergen's to be ok. I was very careful applying it and found that its effect was so slight that I'd have to use if for about two weeks to really see any difference. I didn't notice any orange. I do prefer tanning, though it is not great for your health.
Reply:i use jergans and it works great for me. but if u dont wash ur hands after usiong it ur hands will turn orange but other than that i ♥ it.

*~♥hope i helped!♥~*
Reply:I have tried them and I now believe that they are all going to turn you orange. I just said forget it and started going tanning.
Reply:i have used jergens it did a good job but you HAVE to apply it evenly or you will get streaks but that applies to any self tanning lotion.
Reply:I've only used the Jergens. You have to be really careful washing your hands after applying. I got this nasty tan line on my wrist from washing my hands. Just wash the palms of your hands and in between your fingers.
Reply:Vaseline works but I like Jergens better. Vaseline leaves you orangeish.
Reply:Jergens worked for me. Before you put it on exfoliate really good %26amp; I also mixed it with a little lotion so it wont go on streaky

How much does AirBrush Tanning cost? & It doesnt leave streaks right?

I want my whole body tanned.

Airbrush is the safer way. But how much is it?

How much does AirBrush Tanning cost? %26amp; It doesnt leave streaks right?
A single session is usually $25 dollars but can vary depending on your location. If you purchase more than one session there is usually some sort of discount applied. At the place I go it is $25 for one session, $48 for two sessions, $68 for three sessions, and $99 for five sessions. As far as streaking the results are really good! Streaks are normally caused by uneven application of self tanning lotions. The spray technology allows for an even coating of tanning solution so streaking is a thing of the past! I really suggest this method of tanning, as you said it is so much safer. Laying out in the sun or baking in a bed is not only bad for your skin, it is bad for your health! Good luck, hope you get the golden glow you are looking for!
Reply:The tanning place my friend goes to, you can either pay a more expensive fee for a one time airbrush tan, or you can pay $35 for a membership (1yr), and then like i think airbrush is like $8-10 or something each time you go. And tanning beds are like $4-12 each time (depending on what type bed it is.

Does a tanning bed tan last as long as one from the sun??

Yes. Tanning beds us UV-A and UV-B rays, just like the sun. The sun has another UV called UV-C. UV-B is the "burning ray" and tanning beds only include this UV to make the bed work properly. Sun lamps have all the same "ingredients" so to say, to create a tan as the sun, except it is in a much more controlled environment.

There is nothing fake about a tan in a tanning bed.

Does a tanning bed tan last as long as one from the sun??
It all depends on how dark you go. But on my body a Fake and Bake tan does not last as long as the ones I get in Vegas... So I'm not sure there could be many factors such as skin color and how well you take to the sun and fake sun. Hope this helps!
Reply:Yes they do. However the UV rays from the bed are much more intense than the sun. Unless Ur sunburned real bad. Be careful using a tanning bed. Being tan is not worth skin cancer when U get older. Not what U wanted 2 hear but that's the way that is. Good luck 2 you.

Is it safe to go to the Tanning bed every day?

I tan in a stand up regular heat bed. Is it ok to tan everyday as long as Im not burning my skin.?

Is it safe to go to the Tanning bed every day?
Tanning beds are absolutely NOT safe in any way!

I heard a radio ad yesterday for a tanning salon that claimed tanning was the healthy way to help your body produce more vitamin D. Nonsense. 15 minutes of light exposure a day is the most you need to boost your vitamin D production. But I digresss.

Cosmetically, tanning (even in beds) leads to premature aging of the skin. The UVB rays you're exposed to in the tanning beds are just a deadly when it comes to skin cancer risk.

Routine use of tanning beds is a BAD, BAD idea!
Reply:no you will age faster. you better off buying those tanning creams or spray safer than tanning salon.
Reply:You will get skin cancer and there is no need to go everyday.
Reply:No your skin will look like a sixty year old granmas after a while. But hey if you look great with a tan and dont mind saggy skin keep it up!
Reply:Whether the tanning bed, natural sunlight, or purposeful exposure to radioactive materials, you're exposing yourself to ionizing radiation, and your exposure is cumulative over your lifetime. The tan may fade, but the damage in terms of risk of cancer (or simply premature aging) never goes away, it just keeps adding up throughout your lifetime.
Reply:dont do it! i used a sunbed for about 2 months twice a week i got skin cancer now !

What is the best type of indoor tanning lotion.?

i have medium skin that tans easy i haven't gone in about a year but i am starting up again soon. i was looking into the brand synergy tan.

What is the best type of indoor tanning lotion.?
You are going to think that I am crazy, but I have never used the tanning salon's lotions. I say they are way over priced and I tan much better without them. My twin sister and I did an experiment, she bought the expensive lotions, I used nothing. We went for the same amount of time all the time for a month, and I had a much darker tan than she did. She now doesn't use their lotions either. They don't really do what they say, and are extremely pricey
Reply:Hmm, if you are sticking with that brand, go for something with dark bronzer... maybe even a quad bronzer (4 times the bronzer) since you already have med. skin that tans easily that will give you a nice, fast dark color!

Otherwise, I was originally going to say to stick with Australian Gold /Swedish Beauty products.. Ask the salon you go to about some of their bronzers... If u don't like the way bronzers go on -- try a "body blush" It is a bronzer without the dark bronze color in it.. Works AMAZING!

And, if you can handle it -- get a "tingle"

basically it makes your skin tingle, bringing blood flow to surface thus making your skin tan all the faster..

Those are 3 I'd suggest the actual names of some that really stick out to me are:

Jaded

Tickled Pink

Alias

TAN-GERINE (awesome)

Good luck! =)
Reply:Swedish Beauty Frosted Hemp tanning lotion

It got vitamins and will mosturize your skin.
Reply:I myself love Designer Skin tanning products. They have some awesome lotions with bronzers, anywhere from a single bronzer to multiple bronzers. These products will really help boost your tan quickly.

I know tanning beds are bad for you but would they be less bad if you wore sunscreen while tanning?

If you wear sunscreen, what's the point in going?

I know tanning beds are bad for you but would they be less bad if you wore sunscreen while tanning?
Just heard on the radio here in Ireland, to day, that sunscreen is the least effective protection
Reply:kind of defeats the purpose . dont ya think?
Reply:Truth is, even people who tan without burning risk skin cancer. Any type of tanning is damaging to your skin. I'd skip the tanning bed and get a spray on tan or buy those self-tanning lotions.
Reply:no, don't ever use any products in a tannig bed that are not meant for indoor tanning, it's not good for your skin, and defintily not good for the acrylic on the bed, using a lotion you purchase at your tanning salon will lgive you the best results, and protect you from harmful rays.

How to get this tanning stuff off.....?

i used some do it urself spray tan stuff and i ran out. and now its going away but instead of just fading it looks liek my skin is peeling. and its coming off but i need it to work faster. is there anything i can use to put on my skin to make it better like alcohol or something to make it come off easier and faster.

How to get this tanning stuff off.....?
Ughhh, From someone VERY experienced in using fake tanner I would suggest a rough luffa, some moisture rich body wash (Dove works well), and scrubbing in a circular motion for several minutes. It may take two washes and a bit of exfoliating to remove all the blotchy color. Avoid the temptation to use anything too abrasive as you will end up doing more damage than good.

Good luck;)

If so, what's the best place to get a Mystic Tan?

Has anyone tried the combination of a tanning bed and a mystic tan? Lock in color + the "Bronze" glow?
Yes, it works great! Once you're reached your plateau as far as using the tanning bed, the Mystic Tan is a great way to darken up a little more. I don't know where the best place is to get a Mystic Tan though; they're pretty much all the same at all the salons...same spray stuff, booth, etc. My tanning salon just got the Mystic Tan booth this year, and it's awesome. It only takes a couple minutes in the booth. There is also barrier cream in the Mystic Tan room...you want to apply it to places that you don't want tan, such as your fingernails/toenails, etc.

Do you tan outside in the sun or in a tanning bed?
OUTSIDE Au Natural too.
Reply:outside in the sun
Reply:I like natural, the sun... tanning beds are scary
Reply:I don't tan, I stay inside and work on my pale. But, really, fake baking is pathetic, it doesn't even look natural, and too much sun turns your skin to leather. I speak from first hand knowledge as I live by the beach. But when I do tan, it's naturally from the sun.

I just used st ives glow this past week and I have to say its affordable, works nicely with no orange tones and it smeels great! They even have an option of glow %26amp; Firm....and glow with spf 7 ...I was able to use it and sat in the sun for a little while and I was still protected.
Reply:Dove can work, but that's just me. Dove smells sweet and makes you feel weird until tomorrow morning. I can handle it, but for you, I'd research tanning moisturizers. But to get rid of that gross feeling, dilute your moisturizer with just a normal moisturizer and put it on at night so you don't have to deal with that feeling all day. Tanning moisturizers work best at night anyway because the next day you'll have a tan since nighttime is generally the time your body starts healing itself because you're asleep.
Reply:vaseline has a self-tanner. it worked really well for me. it has no smell and it doesnt leave you orange.

bath and body works also has a self tanner.

When going to a tanning bed should i wear on my FACE spf 15 or 30?

only on my face becuase i have the special spf for my body.

if i wear spf 30..wont it be too much for the skin on my face to tan

I AM ONLY IN THE BED FOR 6-7 MINUTES.

When going to a tanning bed should i wear on my FACE spf 15 or 30?
spf 20
Reply:no use 30 or ask someone that works there be sure because sun exposure and tanning can cause premature aging
Reply:Your face will tan regardless. A dermatologist once told me spf 15 is virtually the same as spf 30. But if you find your face is still lighter than the rest of your body, use self tanning cream for a few hours afterward-if your tanning bed cream doesn't already have self-tanners in it (like mine). Happy tanning!
Reply:Do yourself a BIG favor and use the highest spf on your face. As a matter of fact, don't let your face tan at all! My dermatologist told me years ago that if I kept my face a little tanned that my skin wouldn't be as oily. He was right- except now my face is marked all over with sunspots! I lost my flawless skin forever, and no amount of makeup can make it look that way again (and I'm a makeup artist- I have access to the best). Use a self tanner on your face and neck! And remember- sun exposure is cumalative. That means it all counts- every time you've been in the sun (or in the tanning bed) ever since you were born. There is no start over with sun damage!
Reply:STOP! When you get in a tanning bad you use a special tanning lotion for indoor tanning. Not something for outdoor you will ruin the Acrylic(glass). Tanning beds cost about in the thousands. Please use an indoor tanning lotion.

If I tan in a tanning salon, will it make my tattoo's fade?

Yes, over time it will make your tattoos fade. UV light, which is in sunlight and in tanning beds, reacts with the ink in a tattoo, and can cause it to break down over time. Just look at anyone who works outside (or at a trucker's left arm).. their tattoos lose their definition and get blurry/faded over time.

Just put a little high-spf sunscreen over your tattoo (which is a good idea anyway if it's exposed, not just when you're tanning).

If I tan in a tanning salon, will it make my tattoo's fade?
depends on if they are dark or light color. your skin will get darker causing ur darker tattoos to blend in more. it will "appear" as fading but not in reality.
Reply:i dont think so
Reply:I don't know the answer to your question. But tanning will give you premature wrinkles and possibly skin cancer.
Reply:No it doest where did you hear that?

Mine have never faded due to sun or anyother uv related contact. I think age is the only thing to effect tattoos. But maybe im wrong
Reply:Over time (20 yrs) maybe. I have 3 tattoos, I tan and they haven't faded and I've had mine for over 10 yrs.
Reply:i am a tattoo artist any UV ray you put on your tattoo will make it fade in time. that's why you should always put sunblock on your tattoo. if your really love that tattoo and don't want it to fade or blur then put sunscreen on it.
Reply:yes it will. UV rays fade tattoos, which is why you should always wear sunscreen on them. i would suggest the mist tan or another kind of UV free tanning
Reply:Probably.

Sun is not good for your tattoos. At all.

That's why you're always supposed to keep your tattoos protected with sunscreen.

Why waste your money getting skin cancer in a tanning bed anyway?
Reply:yes any sunlight real or artifical will make it fade u need to use sunlock anytime to help prevetn fading but itll fade fro sure

Reply:No it won't

Reply:YES, they will fade over time if you don't take care of them which include the sun and tanning booths. It isn't that hard to cover them with sunscreen and you will be glad in the long run.
Reply:no.unless its within the time yr tattooist told u to stay outa the sun.
Reply:any exposure to sunlight whether natural or fake will cause your tattoo to fade over time. even if you put sunscreen on it. the rays break down the ink. cover your tattoos!!
Reply:Yes. If you have tattoos, you should already know this. I know that when I got mine, they told me this before I went ahead with it.
Reply:yes, use sunscreen on it

Reversing the damage from tanning beds?

I only tanned for one month and quit it today...what type of damage have i concurred?

Reversing the damage from tanning beds?
Haha I hope he's ^ joking. If that were true, those girls that tan year around (I've known plenty) would have taken about 60 years off of their lives. Honestly, the damage is hard to tell. I doubt you did THAT much damage since it was only a month but it depends on the person. There are some people that have gotten skin cancer after very little sun/tanning bed exposure but there are others who spend nearly their whole life in the sun and never get it. Better safe that sorry though so it's good you quit.
Reply:According to www.whatididwithmylife.com; you have taken 3.2 years off your life and increased you risk of having skin cancer by 235%...good job!

P.S., Glad you quit, for real!
Reply:I think it matters more on how much you tanned, and how long your sessions were. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad you quit because I think tanning beds are really bad (at least the sun gives you a benefit with increased Vitamin D absorption - but don't stay out in it unprotected too long if you burn easily), but I don't know that you can calculate the effects so simply. Chances are you're fine, although I'm obviously not a doctor and can't put a garauntee on it, but I really don't think you're going to have a lot of negative effect after one month unless it was extremely high usuage. Use some sunlight and keep it natural. If you don't darken up, don't worry.
Reply:Probably zero.

I was a farm kid and worked in the sun for years and have had no ill effect.

A lot of which one hears is fear mongering and makes great print.

Just use good common sense and use a sun screen that matches your skin type.

You need one hour of sun a day to stay healthy. It also combats depression, and allows your body to manufacture vitamin d.

Do you know about tanning?

i was wondering if one is using jergens natural glow lotion and going on a vacation can they still get a tan from sun? or would the jergens glow lotion might affect the sun s rays

Do you know about tanning?
omg the sun is a very unhealthy way to get a tan. without sunscreen, yes you will get tan but wrinkles will happen and bad skin when you are a bit older. why would you want wrinkles?? WEAR SUNSCREEN.BE YOURSELF.LIKE YOUR SKIN.
Reply:always wear sunscreen or you'll regret it
Reply:i got that and i went tanning (i still use sun screen) and my tan has never looked better in my life
Reply:all i know is that this girl wasn't meant to tan so i don't fool around with all that junk
Reply:Trust me when I say this... Wear SunScreen... no matter what age you are or how many times you get burnt... you can still get skin cancer... I had a friend that fell sick to skin cancer at the age of 16.
Reply:Always use sun lotion imagine no do use sun tan i agree u will regret it other wise!
Reply:My wife uses Jergen's Natural Glow Lotion for Medium Skin. It works well for her. It doesn't have any sunscreen in it. It is used to moisturize like any lotion and to give your shin a nice, tanned look. We are in the Caribbean and she ALWAYS uses a good sunscreen and re-applies several times throughout the day. You must protect your skin from the sun at all costs. If you insist on getting a natural tan, you can still get one using lots of sunscreen with a high SPF rating and spending only short amounts of time in the sun. It will just take a bit longer and will look better for longer.

What are good self tanning lotions I can use?

I have a really bad soccer tan and I want to fix it as soon as possible.

What are good self tanning lotions I can use?
definitely Jergens. the smell isnt the greatest but it's worth it. and dont use a tone that is too dark for you, otherwise you may turn orange. and make sure to rub it in REALLY well so it will not streak.

good luck and i hope that i helped =]

Do you close the tanning bed top or leave it open?

I have always wondered if one way or another wiould give you a better tan?

Do you close the tanning bed top or leave it open?
You close it, to a point where it's comfortable for you! When it is closed more "rays" will hit parts of your body. I go for 20 Min sessions and the last 5 I need to open it a little to cool off.

Good Luck!
Reply:You need to close it so your top and bottom tan the same. Also, it gets all warm and cozy!
Reply:closing it is the only way to use it properly.
Reply:You close it.
Reply:Close it or you won't be tanned evenly.
Reply:I'm pretty sure you close it because there are the lights all over. If you left it open you'd only get 1/2 tanned.
Reply:you have to close it so that both sides of your body will tan at the same time.
Reply:you have to close it or u wont have the same tan on each side of ur body
Reply:First tape a smiley face on your ****. Then close it.
Reply:Closed is better, or else you have to worry about turning over and tanning the same amount of time, and you might not get the same results as the other side. And that just looks weird.
Reply:you leave the top closed
Reply:in order to get an evan tan you close it. if you dont close it your back will get tan and maybe half of your front, but not evenly because the tanning lights wont be closed in on you.
Reply:you have to close it lol so you tan the fron of your body
Reply:1. apply your tanning lotion

2. get in the tanning bed

3. put on your goggles

4. pull down the top.

5. push the start button, relax and enjoy!!

Can you tan in a tanning bed if you wear hormone patches?

It's not a good idea. From the patch pamphlet:

Direct sunlight or high heat can increase, then lower, the amount of hormone released from a patch. This can give you a big dose at the time and leave less hormone for the patch to release later in the week. This increases your risk of pregnancy. Avoid direct sunlight on the hormone patch. Also avoid using a tanning bed, heating pad, electric blanket, hot tub, or sauna while you are using a hormone patch.

Does your tan lasts longer when you apply normal sunscreen or tanning sunscreen?

Both the "tanning" and the "suncreen" in tanning sunscreen cancels each other out, sweetie. :) Sunscreen is supposed to protect you from burning AND tanning, if it has both UVA and UVB protection, which it should. I think you're confusing sunscreen with tanning oil. Tanning oil contains no sunscreen at all, it just makes you even darker when you're out in the sun. It won't help protect against burning, though.

Does your tan lasts longer when you apply normal sunscreen or tanning sunscreen?
apply a sun tan gel with spf this will keep ur sun tan and protect u from skin cancer
Reply:Both are meant for tanning and booth will tan your skin without burning if applied regularly while outside. This will give you skin the best tan without burning.
Reply:once you've tanned, it doesn't matter which lotion you used, the rate a tan fades at depends on your skin. having a tan fade is really just when the tanned skin cells die and fall off and new, untanned skin is coming up.
Reply:tanning sunscreen

it holds the tan

so, youll be tanner for longer!

Does a tan take awhile to show up or does it just start getting darker & darker while you are tanning?

My friends said it takes a few hours to show up after laying out in the sun %26amp; I also thought it took a little while because I don`t notice results right away, is it true?

Does a tan take awhile to show up or does it just start getting darker %26amp; darker while you are tanning?
DON'T use baby oil like that other person suggested. It's terrible for your skin when you're under direct sun light or fake sun light for that matter! Lotion is your friend while trying to get tan. Lather up as much as possible to keep your skin hydrated, you'll tan better. Showing a tan will take a few hours to appear but don't get too worried if you don't see much after the first few times. It takes a little time!
Reply:normally 3-4 hours then you'll notice a colour difference
Reply:i wish i knew and i wish i was tan i am like a ghostt but hey its sexxi
Reply:yes, it takes a few hours till you get the full effect, but you should see slight results as soon as you tan. You can also try Baby Oil, or a sun tan lotion with a bronzer in it. It will help you see results quicker and tan darker
Reply:It does take a while to show up after being out in the sun. However, the more time you are out in the sun the more color you will get.

I usually tan very well I hardley burn but I went tanning today for the 1st time in a couple weeks and got?

burned on my face. How long do sunburns usually last? I cant stand having a bright red face. Also how do I prevent it from peeling?

I usually tan very well I hardley burn but I went tanning today for the 1st time in a couple weeks and got?
get some raw aloe leaf and cut it open and rub it on your face. fresh aloe has a healing agent and also helps regenerate skin. you're going to peel anyway, but just keep your skin moisturized with a face cream like aveeno or johnsons baby lotion.

Does the lotion at tanning salons...?

make you burn/tan more?

what exactly do they do?

Does the lotion at tanning salons...?
The purpose of the lotion sold in tanning salons is to help keep your skin moisturized. Their lotions typically don't have any alcohol in them and are well worth the money, even if you don't tan.The more moisturized your skin is the better it tans. I use "I tan" from tan-n-tone. I only tan 1x every 2 weeks now and I still use it and love it.

Has anyone tanned in a tanning bed while they were pregnant??

I used to work at a salon, and the general rule was we didn't let any pregnant women tan. The reason for this was because it is easier to overheat in a bed. You may feel fine with the fans blowing on you, but it is very possible to get too hot (which obviously puts the baby at risk.) You will hear some myths about the bed being like a microwave to the baby and whatnot, but none of that is true.

We did have a few women (friends of the owner) who were allowed to tan pregnant, because they only went in for a short period of time and knew to stay hydrated and get out even if they felt hot in the least. Also, because they weren't a law suit threat. I would recommend you not do it. Most places won't allow it, anyways. But if you do, limit yourself to a very short amount of time in the bed (no more than 10 minutes,) and stick to the regular beds...none of those high intensity ones. And be sure to drink plenty of water.

Has anyone tanned in a tanning bed while they were pregnant??
Tanning beds aren't even safe when one isn't pregnant why would anyone want to use them when they are pregnant?
Reply:God I hope not. During the first trimester raising your bodys temperature (sauna, hot tub, tanning bed) increases the risk of spinal malformation in the fetus. Also, ultraviolet rays diminish the folic acid level. Not enough folic acid in the fetus causes neural tube defects. Another thing is that pregnant women are more vulnerable to sunburn and brown pigment (chloasma) in the skin.
Reply:Not anyone I know - it's only 9 months out of your life to go "au naturel"...it isn't worth the risk to your baby to get that fake n bake glow.
Reply:Not on purpose, but I have. I didn't know I was pregnant and had been revving up for summer. Probably went 3-4 times. When I found out I quit. No biggie, and my daughter was not harmed in the least by it. If you really want to have a tan, I'd try the spray ons. I liked them just fine.

As to raising your body tempurature from tanning a in a BOOTH, I get hotter walking from my car into a shopping mall than I do while tanning. The place is air-conditioned and cool air blows over you the whole time. Over-heating really isn't a problem. I have no information on the whole folic-acid/UV rays issue as I've never heard of that.
Reply:Should probably just stay away from it. It's just 9 months, won't kill you. I have a tanning package that I'm still paying for every month and not using, so I know how it is. I miss tanning because it relaxed me, but I refuse to do anything that may possibly bring any harm to my baby.

Should I go fake tanning?

okay so im really pale and its disgusting and i want to get more tan but i dont want skin cancer. should i go to the beds or buy a lotion and if so what kind of lotion should i use and any thips!?!?!?!

Should I go fake tanning?
Get a lotion...I have it, Im not really sure wht brand it is, But it is the one that they have little nossle adjustments on the top of it to make how tan you want it, you twist them for being more tan or less tan...Half of the bottle is brown and half of it is white.....my suggestion to being how pale you said you are...use it on the very lowest adjustment or it will make you orange....AFter using it a few times, you can turn it to some of the tanner ones...

Reply:go to one of those spray on tan places. the tanning beds are damaging to your skin. it is like putting yourself in a microwave.
Reply:You can go fake tanning if you want. Just make sure you don't do it too much.
Reply:Get some Tan Towels. . .They are less streaky than the lotions. I have tried every tanning product known to man, and I am clumbsy. These have worked well. Just don't moisturize for two hours after. You can buy them online or at Walmart.

Oh forgot to mention, that it doesn't get orangy, and you can keep reapplying them. Shave first, then use them.
Reply:tanning beds are really bad for you - like being microwaved! use fake tan lotion stuff, and make sure you do it evenly so you don't look all streaky. and don't overdo it - you don't want to look bright orange!
Reply:dont get a fake tan right now. poeple will know its fake imediatly. wait till the summer and make sure you dont go to dark to quick!
Reply:you know what i used to go everyday..... but i knew the risk just as you do. so do whatever you want just know the risk you are taking too... there is no lotion you can use to prevent skin cancer, anything you could use would also make you not get color, sorry.... and i know spray tans are safe but if you are pale they look so dumb, just a heads up
Reply:The beds are worse than the sun. Try a tanning lotion, but not too dark.
Reply:I do not like spray tanning or lotions. I go to a tanning bed. I believe is the best option as long as you DON'T ABUSE IT, use a good tanning product and MOISTURIZE your skin all the time with a good product. You must also go to a nice place where they give good maintainance to the machine. You will develope a natural color and you won't have to worry about streak lines.
Reply:Do not go fake tanning. i dont see why young girls would.. why would you risk getting cancer for a skin tone that is only a few shades darker..? get the lotion.. but most of it smells like sh*t. get Dove lotion.. it works the best and you dont get the embarrassing scent all through the ay... and wash your hands!
