If you tan in a tanning bed or booth does your hair also get lighter from the uv rays?

it`s a possibility, because the uv rays are the same as what u would get outside, only more concentrated...

If you tan in a tanning bed or booth does your hair also get lighter from the uv rays?
it can, but if you really dont want it to you may want to purchase a "tannie" you ca nfind one at like an salon, it protect your hair from the rays, which can also dry your hair out too.

SHOULD I TAN IN A TANNING BED WHILE TAKING ST JOHNS WORT?

As much as those of us who are "Melanin Challenged" love the look of being a little toasted, it is never good to use a tanning bed -- with or without the dear Saint. Pose your question to any dermatologist and you will get a huge hands down from them too.

Now, the great little tanners have come a long way since the orange-bottle-tan days. So if you are in a hurry – to that way or the way of the Mystic Tan (all over spray at a tanning salon).

The best tan, of course is the natural one that you get from the sun. Come here to Costa Rica! The sun is great – the cost of living is cheap (we live on less than $800 a month) – and the people are wonderful. We have been here for six months (I am a native of Seattle) and my husband and I both have very nice “walking around tans.” The sun is also a great source for Vitamin D.

Happy New Year! Feliz año nuevo

SHOULD I TAN IN A TANNING BED WHILE TAKING ST JOHNS WORT?
You should never tan in a tanning bed.
Reply:NO! Try mystic tan or something.
Reply:No, you should not as St. John's Wort makes you more sensitive to UV light. It will cause problems for you.

When you tan in a tanning bed do you flip over halfway through?

or do you have the white creases. I hate those.... =))

When you tan in a tanning bed do you flip over halfway through?
No flipping here, but I do lift my arms and bend my knees (to aviod the **** crease), NOT an very attractive sight I'm sure.
Reply:I DON'T FLIP
Reply:I fall asleep and my **** cheeks burn.
Reply:I dont tan in a tanning bed. It is bad for your skin. I dont want to be called leatherface when I turn 70
Reply:Yes, the few times I've gone tanning, I have done so.
Reply:No. You have bulbs tanning you from underneath as well as on top. I don't recommend it though because it damages several layers of the skins tissue.
Reply:I lay one day on back next day on tummy

back, tummy, back, tummy and so on...........

cause I hate lil white creases!
Reply:Stay away from these things. Tanning is both silly and childish and very bad for you.
Reply:I don't flip and have never noticed any white lines.

I do switch beds every now and then so maybe that helps.
Reply:I flip over when I use a tanning bed, but you should try the

stand up tanners they have now, Their GREAT !
Reply:I've never been in a tanning bed.
Reply:Nope, that's the point of the double sided bed so you don't have to but FYI it's good to like raise your arms once in a while so you don't have white pits and lines where your arms have been laying when the rest of you're body is tan!!! lol Just a little tid bit for ya!!

Whats worse tanning in the sun or in a tanning bed??

Tanning period!

I just had a skin cancer removed (scary) and I have always tanned in beds case I thought they were safe. So now I'm on a crusade to get people to stop tanning!

Try a skin bronzer or spray tanning.

Whats worse tanning in the sun or in a tanning bed??
sun.
Reply:tanning beds are worse, if you want to get tan go outside put sunscreen on and tan, it's the safest way!
Reply:both are equally horrible. they cause immediate changes in the skin and cause free radicals. you can't see these...but after time, they will make themselves known. no sunscreen blocks this completely.
Reply:I think they are both bad the sun is probably better because it natural and wont make your skin all leathery but they both can give you skin cancer...
Reply:Tanning Beds.
Reply:The tanning bed, because you receive a large dose of UV radiation all at once. With the sun, you only recieve small amounts of radiation at a time.
Reply:Yep tanning can cause skin cancer so don't do it!!:0(
Reply:both are not good for you, but if you're like me and cant get enough of either one...i have always heard that tanning beds are fine as long as you dont go day after day after day and yearround. i have also heard that 20 minutes of the tanning bed is equivalent to 8 hours out on the beach. but both always make me feel better mentally and physically.
Reply:take it from the horse's mouth ... as long as you are browner than you were be4 and a little happier ... it's all good in the hood.
Reply:Both are bad

I read a COSMOgirl Magazine, they say a tanning bed is worse.
Reply:tanning boths have either UVB OR UVA rays and you can regulate the sun exposure.

tanning outside is generally when you burn because you can't say how long you will stay outside depending on many factors. natural sun produces a different color to your skin, which i prefer.

you can do a bit of both but use regularity and don't overexpose yourself.

i've tanned since i was young (now too!) and i'm in my 30s now but still look like low 20s because i take care of my skin daily. that's most important.
Reply:Both arent good for ur health at all

How would i go about getting a tan, if i am pale and burn easily, and cant go out to a tanning bed?

Just wondering.

Im tired of being pale and people making fun of me for it, but every time i try and tan i just burn

How would i go about getting a tan, if i am pale and burn easily, and cant go out to a tanning bed?
Try tanning at the tanning bed, for 5 mins to start out. I would do that for 3 days, then go to 7 min, for 3 days. You got to go every day, or you will loose what you have built up. Keep adding a few min at a time.
Reply:Try Aveda self tanner. It doesn't look orange and you will tan up nicely in a few applications.

Just be careful to apply it evenly and wash your hands after you put it on!
Reply:Tan gradually with a good self tanner. Clarins makes a really good one that give off a realistic natural tan look. This is obviously the first time you're putting it on and you can really screw it up, so I suggest that you call the salons in your area to see if they offer self tanning or find a friend to help you out. Good luck!
Reply:apply sunscreen first of all, be safe, then expose yourself to the sun for short amounts at a time, 30 minutes or less, then when you have built up a "base" tan you can stay under the sun for longer amounts of time.
Reply:You can use one of the many store bought tanning lotions that tan your skin. They look realistic and won't damage your skin!

I have heard really good things about all of them but I am a fanof Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer: http://www.jergens.com/Our_Collection/Pr...

Check it out! Tip - exfoliate skin before for a more even tan.
Reply:sorry, but it sounds like you are going to have to fake bake. and w/ as pale as you are you w/ easily aquire freckles and sun spots associated w/ tanning which aren't very attractive.
Reply:Firstly, don't let people make fun of your skin - that is horrible and really out of touch. At 40 you won't have wrinkles and they will, for being out in the sun too much!! Pale isn't boring - just look at people like Nicole Kidman or Bree from desperate housewives! They are beautiful!!

Get fake tanner. Not sure where you live but where I live you can get great moisturisers with a little fake tanner in them so you can build up the 'tan' over the course of a week. They are great and natural looking and don't have that horrible 'fake tan' look.
Reply:Check out this website...they have a self-tanner (under shop online - body care)

http://www.caseynerau.myarbonne.com/

Feel free to ask me any questions that you have about any of the products.
Reply:I feel you pain. I'm VERY fair skined as well and I burn very easily and can't hold a tan. I've tried it all....but believe me, you'll have the last laugh when you look great when you are older. Not being in the sun and wearing sun block when you're in it will make you look fab when you're older....no wrinkles!!! I've tried other tanners and they seem to be ok...but there is a new process out there in salons called mystic tan. I'll include the site and it seems like it's a great alternative for people like 'us' Let me know if you try it and how it goes. Best of luck to you!!

http://www.mystictan.com/
Reply:I know exactly how you feel. I am so white I glow in the dark. ; - ) I have learned to live with it though.

It depends on the money you want to spend to be tan what options are available to you. One of my favorites, and some tanning salons actually do have it, is Mystic Tan. At least, that is what it is called where I live. It is a "fake and bake", but it is a full body spray-on tan. It works quite well and has never left me with that lovely shade of burnt orange that tells everyone your tan is not a natural one. It can be as expensive, if not more, than paying for a regular tanning salon. It just depends on the specials that are being offered where you live.

Another option, with the same outcome but on a much smaller scale, is a spray-on tanning product that you can get pretty much anywhere (Wal-mart, Target, etc.). One of the best I have found is by Sally Hansen. It is called Airbrush Sun. They have formulas for the body and for the face. It did not turn me that special shade of orange either. There are some other brands that are good as well. Neutrogena makes a self-tanning foam, I believe. I don't recommend the self-tanning lotions because if you don't exfoliate (remove the dead skin from your body) prior to using them, they can leave you looking streaked, which is another dead giveaway that your tan is not genuine. The spray-on or foam tanning products get darker with additional applications allowing you to control how dark you get.

Read the label before you buy. There are some products that require you to stay in the buff for at least an hour before putting clothes on. If you are short on time, then that will not be a convenient option for you.

I just started going to the tanning salon and i go for 15 minutes. how often should i go? and?

how long will it take until u can see a difference in my skin tone? im naturally tan just not very tan

I just started going to the tanning salon and i go for 15 minutes. how often should i go? and?
Go to the beach, and tan yourself as much as you want. you want a tan, get a natural one!
Reply:I would say it would take about a week to notice a difference. atleast it takes about a week with my skin.. and I go every other or ever 2 days. And I always go 15 minutes at a time..

Really it depends on how tan you naturally are, or like what your heritage is. Like I naturally have blonde hair and light eyes but someone with darker hair and dark eyes would usually tan a lot faster than me.
Reply:don't go - this is very very bad choice
Reply:Don't go to a tanning salon. You can get cancer. And anywayz a beach tan alwayz looks better.
Reply:Stop! Tanning is soooo bad for your skin! Get a spray tan! It doesnt damage your skin and you look great! You have to watch though some places dont do that great of job so research it. But seriously your damaging your skin and will look way way older and with lots and lots of ugly wrinkles if you keep tanning a lot or go lay out at the beach all day! Besides the fact that you can get skin cancer and nowdays its NOT AT ALL uncommon..and to "laughs a lot" you can get cancer either way, natural sun is even harsher!
Reply:you probably shouldn't have started at 15 minutes. i hope you did't burn. if you but a lotion from the salon i would say go 3 times a week and you should see a difference in a week. then like once or twice a week to keep it up. don't burn urself tho.
Reply:every other day
Reply:Please don't tan in these salons! They are worse than just being out in the sun as they have higher UV rays. Recently a girl died after having just one session at one of these places. It is a serious health risk that could result in major surgery to remove cancerous cells or even death. If you want to tan there are body moisturisers that you can apply every day that will build up a natural looking tan without the harmful side effects. If you are worried about your face use make up to help make your best features shine through. Please consider the harm you are doing by going to these salons!

Dove Vs. Vaseline tanning lotion?

Which is better???

Scent wise? And the actual tan wise?

Can i go tanning in Melbourne, Austrilia without getting skin cancer?!?

how long outside should i be for a nice natural looking tan?-and of coruse i will be putting on sunscreen

Can i go tanning in Melbourne, Austrilia without getting skin cancer?!?
Don't do it

If you must, then remember your heading into summer and the highest risk. 10 minutes at the height of the day is enough, To minimise the risks.

Remember that Australia has the worlds highest rate for skin cancers,

Ian M
Reply:Same opinion why do it?Our sun is very strong here in Australia. If you are here on holidays you would not enjoy it with a bad dose of sunburn. If you do go to the beach remember slip slop slap a Aussis saying.
Reply:You need to look up Clare's Law in reference to Clare Oliver who has just campaigned against tanning from her death bed and died last week of skin cancer.

Are tanning beds less safe than being in the real sun a lot? If so, how? How can I be safest in tanning bed?

I'm only going for a month before vacation this summer, so that I don't get charbroiled in the Caribbean, so please no lectures about how its going to kill me and how superficial people are these days...Anyways, thanks in advance.

Are tanning beds less safe than being in the real sun a lot? If so, how? How can I be safest in tanning bed?
Using a tanning bed is much safer than the sun. It is a much more controlled environment. Remember that too much of anything is bad for you.
Reply:Tanning beds are unsafe!

A lady suffered 60% burns to her body due to faulty sun bed (it was in my papaers here in uk and on news!)

I would advise using strongest facter of sun tan lotion and protect your skin and stay out of sun when it's at its hottest!

Have a good holiday.
Reply:tanning beds and the sun are equally unhealthy. thats the truth, sorry. try a tanning lotion, that is healthy and works! but tanning beds and the sun are equally bad.
Reply:bed are 10 times worst then sun...you will get skin canser eather way if you want it fast then go into the bed
Reply:Tanning beds DO NOT PROTECT YOU FROM BURNING. especially in the Caribbean. I have personally witnessed a women being helicoptered off the islands because she was so sun burned, her skin cracked, blistered and weeped.

For the Caribbean put sun blocker on constantly. You are not a native. You WILL burn, and you can get skin cancer.
Reply:20 mins in a tanning bed = 4 hours in the sun. Wear sun Block in the tanning bed

Have a Great vacation

%26lt;3 Me
Reply:the safest way would to apply a fake before you go. that way when you hit the beach you won't look pale. i don't think sunbeds are that safe so i would suggest just getting the real thing and sitting on a beach is much more fun than lying in a cramped booth.
Reply:I think that both the sun and tanning beds are bad for you when used for long periods of time. I would just use the self-tanning lotions and sprays it is way more safe.
Reply:Tanning beds give off 30 times more UV rays than the Sun in the same amount of time. You choose...
Reply:I work for a dermatologist and she always trys to get her patients to stop tanning. Tanning in any form damages the skin, and makes you at higher risk for getting skin cancer later in life. It also ages you prematurely, so if you don't tan now you won't look like a Sharpei puppy by the time you're 40. You might think about getting a spray-on tan right before you go on vacation so at least you won't look too "white". Then when you're on vacation use lots and lots of sunscreen.
Reply:NEITHER ARE SAFE NO TYPE OF TAN IS SAFE IT DAMAGES THE SKIN!

Should I use tanning oil on those not so sunny days?

On the days when its not hot enough to get burned, can you use tan oil to get a little more out of the sun?

Should I use tanning oil on those not so sunny days?
It's not actually the heat that burns your skin but the rays from the sun, so even when it's cold or there is a lot of cloud cover, you can still get burnt. I wouldn't recommend ever using a tanning oil - use a sunless tanning lotion instead.
Reply:If you want...but its totally a better idea to just get a tanning lotion ...less chance of sunburn or cancer or whatever. and while all your white friends are trying to get a tan you'll be bronzed and beautiful!

Will tanning oil, not self tanning lotion, also turn me orange?

No Way! Tanning oil is the best! It will give a deep, dark color!

Will tanning oil, not self tanning lotion, also turn me orange?
Tanning oil wont make you orange but it will take longer to change your skin tone, tanning oil also attracts the sun more, the lotion doesnt. Tanning lotion will make you look orange.(Personal experience).
Reply:No. Tanning oil magnifies the (natural) effect that the sun has on your skin.

Self-tanning lotions turn you orange because they work to DYE your skin, usually a color not found in your skin's own spectrum. BUT they are a healthier way to darken your skin. You just have to try a bunch of different self-tanners before you find one that works well with you.
Reply:as mentioned the oil intensifies the radiation your getting and makes you skin dark. it's definately not orange, it's a brown tan. it's really horrible for your skin, yada yada premature aging, wrinkles, cancer....

Is there anyway i can get tanner besides going to a tanning bed and not get orange?

i wanted to get a spray on tan but to worried of getting orange i want to try a lotion but i dont no i need ideas

Is there anyway i can get tanner besides going to a tanning bed and not get orange?
Try the new banna boat self spray tan you can change the tones after each apply its guaranteed not to be orange plus i've used it and it works great it has this twisty thing on the top that changes the tone like from tanner to lighter so that way as the week progresses you can go from light to tan you know so it looks natural to other people haha sneaky.

ps.. You can also just apply bronzer to ur face
Reply:it won't make you orange it will look natural besides you get to pick your tone make sure you go darker colored if your blonde and lighter if your burnett

What tanning salons offer the spray tan? What is it like?

Its kind of streaky and it will come off on your clothes and could possibly stain them. It is definatly safer, but I would go with something like Jurgens or Clarins tanning cream. Its a cream and over time it tans you.

What tanning salons offer the spray tan? What is it like?
Nearly every salon offers a spray tan - sometimes it comes out well, sometimes it doesn't and comes out a bit streaky but it's your safest bet.

Good luck!

Lorna
Reply:any of the tanning salons where i live offer the spray tan. around here it is called mystic tan and i would not recommend it to anyone. i havent ever used it but my did last year for prom because she couldnt lay in a tanning bed because she was pregnant. it turned her orange and when it started to fade out it left really bad streaks. it definately didnt look good!

Does sunblock prevent tanning?

I got a chemical peel about a month ago and my dermatologist told me to put on sunblock every time Im out in the sun. If I put on sunblock and go to the beach for a few hours would I still be able to get a tan?

Does sunblock prevent tanning?
yes, sunblock prevents sunburn, but you can still tan. ♥
Reply:yes. make sure you wear sunblock!
Reply:sunblock controls tanning, not prevents it.
Reply:yeah. sun screen just helps to prevent the bad rays from getting to ur skin and causeing skin cancer. u should still beable to tan
Reply:Hi there...I think I have the product that you are looking for...There is a suncreen that allow you to tan while you are being protected from the sun...The product is called a "self - tanner sunscreen" Made by Arbonne (formulated in Swizerland) This is so great cos it helps you to tan with a glowing golden colour not an ugly orange colour...

It is reccomended that you spray on 30 minutes before your exposure in the sun...

Please check out the website:

http://www.makemebeautiful1.myarbonne.co...

you can check out the products...Its under anti-ageing "before sun"
Reply:Yes, its necessary. Chemical peels are great but will cause increased sensitivity. Your skin will be fragile for up to a week, maybe more..especially if its a potent professional peel. You should actually use a sunscreen every day..preferably one with a reasonable amount of protection and highly moisturizing. Keep in mind the sun ages your skin and you run a high risk for skin cancer each time you suffer burns from the sun. If you're fair complected you need to exercise extra caution.

I want to get tan but . i dont want to get it by using tanning beds and harmful tanning oils.Any suggestions?

Try a Mystic tan. You just go into a booth and get sprayed. You are in it for literally 15 seconds, then you wipe off and go. You can get pretty dark, especially if you go 2 or 3 times. It lasts about a week and a half or even 2 weeks.

I want to get tan but . i dont want to get it by using tanning beds and harmful tanning oils.Any suggestions?
sit in the sun, that always works for me.

Pale is beautiful too. People who should be on the white side that tan look gross!

Reply:Try Jergen's self-tanner or Dove's. There are a lot of options out there now that everyone is so skincancer worried.
Reply:Best thing to do is build the tan gradually, start off with a factor 15 then slowly lower the factor each day thus helping build an even tan and preparing your skin each day.
Reply:spray tan is the best-but only when the person does it manually, not the machine. If you have a friend that can buy at the beauty supply places I suggest Fake Tan. This comes in a spray and looks fab.
Reply:i used 45 spf in hawaii and I came back so dark that everyone thought I was black. Just spend some time in the sun, use sunblock that is at least 30spf, and you'll still get those nice UV rays which will make u dark and sexy.

Reply:Loreal makes a lotion called sublime glow. It brings out the natural melanin (color) in your skin, and also acts as a moisturizer. There are different levels from a vague tan, to bronze.
Reply:well most people would say try johnsons fake tan. but trust me, dont! lol.

Dove's fake tan works 10 times better and leaves you with a really nice glowy tan, instead of a blochy one like johnsons.

Id recomend dove fake tan anyday

hope this helps

It may cost more than your self tanners, but it speaks for itself!

Where can i find some male tanning wear? a little like a speedo or briefs that allows a tan beneath the cloth?

back in 1995-96 a company came up with the sunless or tanless bikini for men and women. i actually saw the meterial and it appeared to be almost see thru similiar to mesh, but still allowed you to get this great tan. i can't seem to recall the name, it was a great idea! and i passed up the chance to purchase a tiny pair, if anyone knows the name or where i can find a pair for the summer. email me.

Does tanning in a tanning bed help improve your mood?

I own a tanning shop :)

It does make you feel good for a small amount of time, but prolonged exposion can give you headaches

Does tanning in a tanning bed help improve your mood?
no. not at all. if it does, then it is just in your head. it just makes you have wrinkles when you're 20.
Reply:actually, it hasnt been tested at all, but i have had a mood change after tanning. I would always be stressed out...and then i got to the tanning bed and the stress just rolls away. It might be becuase your laying down and listening to music that relaxes you, but i personally feel better after tanning...
Reply:No it doesn't improve your mood but it does give you wrinkles though:(
Reply:I'm not an advocate for tanning but in the dead of winter my skin gets so dry and flaky that I found going just once or twice made my skin better and yes my mood did improve...it was so bone warming...like a little vacation from the -20 weather
Reply:It does improve my mood. I find it relaxing. Plus i love a good tan.
Reply:It totally does, you can call a doctor or a therapist and they will agree, it is recommended even for post partum depression and just for winter blues. It is a real kind of therapy and it works! I had to go somewhere cold a few months ago and i was like, oh man, it is so depressing here! I bought some tanning minutes when I was out of town to make it seem less bogged down and yucky. As soon as i got in that bed, I could feel my soul recharging a little bit. When I finally got home, I was like-yea-it is happy here! And sunny! I love it like so much!
Reply:well mkaing your skin look healthier and what not can make you feel better, and usually it helps you just relax, so possibly.
Reply:Actually this has been tested. And yes, tanning is proven to improve your mood. In Alaska, during that time of year when it always dark, the people use artificial lighting so they won't go nuts. So yeah it helps.
Reply:Yes it does. Makes you feel good! The real sun makes you feel good too. This is true.
Reply:It makes me feel better. I live in Maine and the winters can be a bit dreary. I go 1 or 2 a week, 10 minutes max.

Maybe its the boost to my complexion that I like.
Reply:No. It just blinds you, gives wrinkles, and you get skin cancer. Any more questions?

How can I get a better tan at the tanning bed?

I have been going about three times a week for the past 4 weeks and I am not seeing much a of change. I am somewhat darker complected already but my prom is in a month and I want to look really good in my lime green dress. I use a bronzer lotion when I tan. Does anyone know what I can do or a different kind of lotion I should use to make me darker?

How can I get a better tan at the tanning bed?
I have noticed that anytime that I tan I need the more oily lotions. And a lot of times the more expensive tanning lotions aren't all they are cracked up to be. The BEST time to tan is after a workout. Your pores are open then.
Reply:If your already using a bronzer then maybe you should tan more often(like everyday once a day) just until you get as dark as you wanna get.
Reply:the bulbs might need changed.

apply the tanning lotion right out of the shower and again at the salon. moisturized skin tans more easily. is the bronzer lotion for tanning bed use? if not try one for tanning bed use.

exfoliate well in the shower then after you get out apply tanning lotion - and again when you get undressed to get into the bed.

take care.
Reply:well one thing i need to know to answer this question is how long have you been getting in?..........................if i was you i would get in for at least 20 minutes that is how long i get in.....another thing that helps is to get in a tanning bed with good bulbs.the tanning bed that i get in has fifteen minute bulbs and i have only been about 5 times and i am seeing great results.another good thing is twisted bulbs i have never been in a tanning bed that has twisted bulbs but A friend of mine get in one and she is pretty dark.you might also want to try to use a different lotion, and when you get out of the tanning bed put baby lotion on your skin and it keeps you from peeling and helps your skin stay healthy.

Is the "tingle" tanning bed lotion dangerous?

My legs are very hard to tan, but I was reading that the thing to use for that is the "tingle" lotion. Has anybody used this, does it work, and is it dangerous?

Is the "tingle" tanning bed lotion dangerous?
No its perfectly fine.

"Premium tanning products can be formulated with TINGLE to aid in the process of tanning. Tingle tanning lotions and sprays contain high concentrations of natural vitamins and botanical oils that stimulate the skin’s microcirculation by bringing blood closer to the surface of the skin. By stimulating the skin with Tingle, the blood along with melanin is forced to the surface. This can aid in the tanning process and may get you through your tanning plateau. It is best to start with lower levels of Tingle in your tanning supplies. As you progress, working up to higher levels of Tingle tanning power, it is recommended that you start using tanning lotions with a low Tingle power so your body becomes accustomed to the stimulation. As your body adjusts over several tanning sessions, you may gradually work to higher levels. "

Whatever you read otherwise is nonsense. Over time your body may become accustomed to the tingle but it wont hurt you.
Reply:Ask the people at the tanning place.

I'm sure they know better then we do and would be happy to answer your questions. :]
Reply:I doubt the lotion is dangerous, but you are already setting yourself up for getting cancer by going to a tanning bed so what's one more factor.
Reply:It's not dangerous. It just feels "hot" - I personally don't like it... There are different degrees of "tingle factor", so check into it. There are also lotions w/ a cooling factor...much nicer...

Here is a clip from Wikepedia:

Tingle is the de facto standard description for indoor tanning lotions that contain ingredients that increase blood flow at the skin level. This is because the ingredients cause the wearer to experience a tingling sensation (of varying degree). The science behind the concept is more theory than proof, but it is usually accomplished using irritants or chemicals that cause a reddening sensation, flushing the user's skin.

People react differently to the ingredients, and one lotion that has no tingle effect on one person may cause mild pain in another. This is why it is impossible to create a system of rating tingle that is objective. Some companies do offer ratings that offer some guidance to the consumer, but it is not standardized. Most companies produce lotions with and without ingredients that tingle, as many do not prefer this method of tan enhancement or find it uncomfortable.
Reply:i don't think its dangerous but i think it feels funny after your done tanning - -kind of cold and makes you want to wash it off
Reply:No the tingle lotion is not dangerous. Tanning itself is dangerous but the lotion is not. I go tanning and have legs which are also hard to tan and I have gotten fabulos results from Swedish Beauty Unforgiven tanning lotion which has bronzers and a T40 tingle. It works great. Some people don't like the tingle feeling though as it does make you really hot and feel like your burning then you stay red for about a hour after you leave the salon so I would reccomend using a packet before buying a bottle, to make sure you don't mind the feeling.
Reply:tingle lotion is not dangerous but it also depends on your skin. you should try it buy just putting a small amount on your arm and see how your skin reacts if you have sensitive skin then i suggest something else.. for a sec rout you could try and use triple bronzers for your legs.. in then they have extra color to help tan hard to tan areas. i had to use that on my face and it worked wonders.....
Reply:yeah, the tingle lotions are definitely the best if u wanna get super dark!!! i`ve used these exclusively for about 5+ years %26amp; would never consider using anything else, even for outdoor tanning!!! they do make your skin super-hot (because they contain various ingredients to increase blood circulation), and some people find the warming sensation uncomfortable...it`s possible also that you may find yourself allergic to one or more of the ingredients (especially if you have sensitive skin)...people have been known to break out in hives, etc....so i would suggest taking a small amount %26amp; doing a "patch" test on a small area of your leg before you go to tan, %26amp; see how your skin reacts in that area...i don`t personally think the tingle lotions are "dangerous", but they are for serious, experienced tanners!!!
Reply:The reason that your legs are hardest to tan is because they are furthest away from your heart. I worked at a tanning salon and we recommended that only advanced tanners(with a good base) use tingle. Some people like it and some people hate it. In my own experience, i loved it. if your not sure, try a sample of it on a small area then you will know what to expect, just be sure to not put it on your face. Be prepared to itch and your skin will be red because a tingle brings the blood to the surface of the skin. Also, keep moisturized before and after you tan and don't shower for a hour after if you use lotion.

Also look at the different tingles, they each have different tingle factors in them ranging from a T3 to T50

Spray tan vs. tanning bed. Which do you prefer and why?

Spray tans can look fake and ruin sheets and clothing. Remember the orange Charlize Theron when she won her Oscar?

Beds can be harmful, but as long as you don't burn and see a dermatologist regularly, they can indeed be beneficial.

Ever wonder why skin cancer rates are up when we're all going nuts using sunscreen daily? Or using self tanners and staying out of the sun, yet the stats on skin cancer still go up?

Ever think that maybe the chemicals you put on your skin are being absorbed into your body? Nicotine and birth control patches are absorbed - clearly, anything that you use on your skin goes into your body.

I maintain a light tan with tanning beds. I don't go long enough to burn and use a 35spf powder sunblock when in the sun (by a company called Colorescience) so I never burn even though I am Polish/English/Danish, blonde with brown eyes and really don't burn easily.

I believe maintaining color, whether by the sun or tanning beds, NEVER burning is the best defense, along with a close relationship with a good derm. Tanning, either natural or sunbeds, also helps in absorbtion of calcium by helping your body process vitamin D. Tanning beds also helped an uncle's psoriasis and for acne, well, derms DO use sunlamps and charge you a copay for the honor, don't they? And that works.

Just wait, something will soon come out regarding sunblock lotions and/or the chemicals in self tanners being more harmful than even a bad sunburn.

My rant for the day. I'm sure I'll get a ton of thumbs down ratings for my unpopular opinion but it all makes sense if you think about it.

Plus, this question isn't posted in the "Health" category. It's "Beauty". So aesthetically speaking, a real tan is certainly best.

Spray tan vs. tanning bed. Which do you prefer and why?
Tanning bed

It doesnt look so fake
Reply:They both have there pros %26amp; cons. I like the Tanning bed look alot better but Spray tan is Definitely better on my skin!
Reply:tanning bad spray tan makes you go orange and look stupid
Reply:Spray. Tanning beds can cause health problems and will make your life misserable in the long run. Spray tans are healthy and safe, but you have to make sure you don't miss a spot!
Reply:Spray tan looks soo fake, and comes off easily. And alot of times, isnt applied correctly and doesnt look even.

Tanning beds are better, but they cause cancer.

So i prefer neither. Besides, i'm a latina, so i have a natural tan.
Reply:I like spray tans. I don't want to have skin cancer or leathery skin from a dumb tanning bed.
Reply:Definatly spray tans, tanning beds are too dangerous, risk of skin cancer and premature aging.
Reply:Tanning beds look better but is very bad and can cause cancer.. Spray tans aren't the best things but better for your body.
Reply:they both look fake and out of fashion. seriously. plus the bed gives you cancer.
Reply:Tanning bed...the sprays looks fake besides the fact that I noticed it rubbed off rather quickly
Reply:Spray and creams...Beats worrying about skin cancer!
Reply:Tanning bed. Lasts forever, and takes longer to wear off. Also, does not leave splotches like the spray tan does.
Reply:i will go for spray because i saw a documentary in which they told that tanning beds r not good for health and they can also cause cancer.
Reply:personally, i just soak up the sun, but not too much, and i have a totally awesome tan! but spray is actually safer, so i would use that if i had to.
Reply:i have been tanning not for over 3 years and i hate the spray tans. first of all it could come off on your face and your face will look all blotchy. if u are really white than the spray tan will prolly make u look orange anywayz. i say get in a bed and tan...it is sooo relaxing anywayz...and it gives u some time to yourself!!!
Reply:tanning bed. i have oily skin, so when its winter and not sunny my skin is dull and i get spots, so if i have a spray tan, i just look dull and spotty and orange. whereas when i use a bed it makes me look tanned and gets rid of the spots and dullness.
Reply:spray tan!!!!! more safer that tanning bed. havn't u heard of that girl who got a scar from a tanning bed???????? spray tan is like sooooo much convenient too.

Indoor tanning lotions: Are the ones at the stores as good as the ones they sell at the tanning salons?

Yes, I have tried Hawaiian Tropic T- 2 Max Indoor Deep Tanning Salon Lotion and it works great! It was under $8.00 and I found it at Wal-Mart. You can also put it on before going out in the sun. I love it! Try it!!!

Indoor tanning lotions: Are the ones at the stores as good as the ones they sell at the tanning salons?
They all make you streaky and orange over time. I dont know who these self tanning companies think they're fooling but i have tried everything form nuetrogena to dove to estee lauder and they all make you odd tints over time depending on where you sweat. yeah gross. i know but it's true.

How to prevent Tanning?

i have an outside job, and im starting to get a farmers tan, is there any kind of sunblock that will prevent this from happening?

How to prevent Tanning?
Use that Aveeno continuance sunblock it is suppose to stay on for a long time unlike other sunblocks that you have to put on every 80 minutes. The higher the number the better it is.
Reply:get sunblock that has a realllllly high SPF: like 55 or something. it will keep like, ALL the sun off of you
Reply:No. Even with a sunscreen on, you will still get a bit of a suntan. Just be sure not to use anything over a SPF 35, because at that point, there are no more protecting agents, just more oils that go into your skin.
Reply:Not really...just take off your shirt once in awhile or, go tanning a few times to get rid of the lines. Good luck!
Reply:Neutrogena just introduced an SPF 70. No matter how strong your sunblock is, though, if you work outside you'll have to reapply it every 1 1/2-2 hours (you'll sweat it off). Also, you have to apply it before you get dressed; clothing can interfere with application. Always apply it twice before going outside initially, then 'retouch' it while you're outside.

Don't just rely on sunblock, though: wear a wide-brimmed hat when you can and dark, heavy clothing to block out as much radiation as possible. Studies have shown that light weight clothing in pale colors allows more radiation to pass through than dark-dyed, heavy clothes like jeans and wool.
Reply:really, its all in the food you eat....you need more dark red fruit (cherries, pomegranates) and cocoa and green tea have all been proven to boost your body's own natural sun protection ability. a great sunscreen is Aubrey's organic green tea sunblock..you should reapply it about every 4 hrs if you don't want any colour at all.
Reply:There is really no way to prevent tanning. Tanning is your body's way of protecting you from the damage of the sun. When you get a tan, what is happening is the melanocytes in your skin are producing melanin pigment in reaction to ultraviolet light in sunlight. UV light stimulates melanin production. The pigment has the effect of absorbing the UV radiation in sunlight, so it protects the cells from UV damage. Melanin production takes a fair amount of time -- that is why most people cannot get a tan in one day. You have to expose yourself to UV light for a short period of time to activate the melanocytes. They produce melanin over the course of hours. By repeating this process over 5 to 7 days pigment builds up in your cells to a level that is protective. So really the only way to stop your farmer's tan is to wear clothes that cover more of your skin. It is still VERY important to use a sunscreen with a high SPF and broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection to help aid in the protection of your skin.
Reply:hhaah my sister has to work at an outdoor camp and has the most awful farmers tan. theres nothing you can really do except slather on gallons of sunscreen.
Reply:I know it might be hot to wear a long sleeve shirt, but my brother does, when he is working out side all day. He also wears a SPF 55. Make sure you put lots of sun screen on and reapply through out the day. Try wearing a hat, as well. The sun will damage your face. Put lots of sun screen on your face too, as the sun will speed up the wrinkle process and give you dark spots on your face, called sun spots or hyperpigmentation. Always reapply through out the day. The higher SPF 55,only means you could stay in the sun as much as 55 minutes, then reapply. SPF 15 means you have fifteen min. with protection and so on. You should also wear sun screen through out the year. Make sure the sun screen you purchase has a UVA and UVB protection. You should go through a bottle of sun screen in one week, if you are using it correctly.

If you really do want a tan, spray-on is definitely the safest way and the most reversible if you're not happy with it.

Can tanning in a tanning salon make you have genital herpes flare up?

It can make any form of herpes flare up. Whether it be genital or the kind that one might get on their face.

My friend gets them when she lays out sometimes.

Id say get yourself on some Lysine just to boost your immune system up, or if youre not already, or what have you..get on something.

Which is better? Tanning outside for hours every week or going in the booth ONCE for 10 minutes?

I am really pale. To get the same amount of tan that I would get in 10 minutes of a booth, I'd have to lay out every day at 12 for an hour on each side for like, a week or so, but which one is better?

Which is better? Tanning outside for hours every week or going in the booth ONCE for 10 minutes?
I am personally a very dark complected person, but, laying out in the sun for about 20 to 30 minutes every day is alot healther, tan beds can get too hot and give you cancer. be sure (if you r pale) to put on sun block or sun screen, about every 10 to 15 minutes! a even better way, heathy wise but may not look as good/natural. Is a short spray tan. But still, laying out in the sun is a lot faster, and healthier! be sure to be in a little its bitxy shade spot on your really white and pale parts, becaus pale ppl get burnt easily. It may sound nasty, but to have no tan line, lay out naked. it will not give you a funny looking tan line!
Reply:sun light i go in the sun every summer and i allway's get a even tan.
Reply:For a really pale person, not tanning at all is safest. I understand your pain, I really do - I would have to be outdoors for hours to tan, and it still wouldn't do me much good, thanks to a red-haired mom and grandmom ;-) Having a tan is not a good idea for those of us who are so pale; I'd strongly suggest getting a spray-on formulation, rather than exposing your skin to either of the options you mentioned. The fact that you have very little pigment means that you are more vulnerable than most to the rays that cause tanning; it's not worth skin cancer to darken a little - and I know about THAT, too, because my father has had it.
Reply:The only safe way to tan is the fake kind. If you choose to use a tanning bed or normally sunbathing, then wear sunscreen. Make sure that it is protection from both UVA and UVB rays, so that you help to protect yourself against skin cancer and wrinkles. Also, make sure to apply it 30 minutes BEFORE you get in the sun, and remember to reapply it.

Is it safe to tan in a tanning bed or use self-tanning products while pregnant?

During first trimester....

Is it safe to tan in a tanning bed or use self-tanning products while pregnant?
while i use tanning beds...they aren't safe to use while pregnate, excessive UV rays can do damage, especially being in such a small confined space. I really dont see where the spray on/lotion tanners would be a problem at all. If there is any sort of risk, it will be notated on the side of the bottle.
Reply:its not safe to use tanning beds PERIOD.
Reply:Tanning beds are not safe, overall.

Tanning beds are definitely not recommended during pregnancy, and sunless tanners have not been researched very extensively, so the jury is out there. Probably not worth the risk, especially in the first trimester.
Reply:Why would you want to?

You're pregnant.. the days of being hot hot hot are over for a little while.
Reply:I have no idea about the self-tanners. I doubt much research has been done in that area. Call your OB and ask. My gut instinct is that they are OK, but if you want to be safer than safe, avoid all unnecessary cosmetic stuff while pregnant. I did not consider covering my prematurely grey hair unnecessary. I was only 25! I was already huge (I lost all of the weight and then some after my kids were born), and I did not want to look 20 years older than I actually am! I did shy away from acne meds with salycidic (sp?) acid, as that is the same as asprin, and I was worried about absorbtion through the skin. First pregnancy; no hair color, nail polish, or coffee. Second pregnancy (with a more moderate OB/GYN): infrequent hair color, nail polish without toluene and formaldehyde, and one cup of coffee each morning (I had a toddler to keep up with, and I was practically comatose in the mornings).

As far as a tanning bed, that is NEVER safe for you, but I doubt it would be dangerous for your baby.

All natural skin colors are beautiful. If you are a woman with rich, espresso colored skin, that is gorgeous. If you are a fair Black Irish gal like me, that is also gorgeous.

You can always use a powdered bronzer on your face if you feel palid. Personally, I get ticked off when my face and arms darken while I am at the park (using SPF 50) with my kiddos. Not becasue I don't like dark skin, but becasue then, my tummy and legs don't seem to match the top half of my body :) I look like a weird paper doll who is normal on the top half, and a vampire on the bottom half!

As far as not being hot hot hot during pregnancy...my hubby couldn't keep his paws off of me while I was pregnant the second time. I took care of my looks and was the kind of woman who didn't look pregnant from the back. I wore nice (inexpensive) clothes, and paid attention to my hair and makeup. I looked better then than I do now, with two small children! About a year after both of my children were born, I was back to my normal size (a 4). Just breastfeeding and walking, along with a sensible diet. Yes, my boobs are droopier after brithing 2 kids in 22 months, but other than that, and several years of age, I am as good-looking as I was before having children. Motherhood does not mean you have to look frumpy!
Reply:very dangerous, pregnant or not!! i heard they are worse than being in the sun
Reply:Why not just put yourself into a microwave?

Common sense tells me this would be a bad idea.
Reply:Well I am a mother of 3 and pregnant agin, and I would say NO to the tanning bed. OB Drs tell you not to take hot baths or showers, so I really dont think that being in a tanning bed is very smart. I cant stand the heat and it makes me sick even being in it. I guess it is your baby, so all I can is I guess do whatever you want.
Reply:I asked my doctor when I was pregnant, and he said that it was OK to use self tanners. I just used it on my legs, so I didn't look like a ghost!! Hope this helps!!

Good Luck!
Reply:no do not use a tanning bed....its like cooking your baby. But the tanning oils will be fine.

Is tanning in a tanning bed really that bad for you?

My daughters and I all enjoy tanning beds with no harm coming to any of us

Is tanning in a tanning bed really that bad for you?
A tanning bed uses different UV rays than you get from the sun. The sun will cause more damage, but a tanning bed is almost as bad. You won't know you've even gotten any type of skin damage until years later. Then it's too late.

i know that ultraviolet light (UVA 315-400 mm wavelength) aka blacklight, causes melanin to be built up, causing a suntan tan. does a regular blacklight that makes light colored objects glow give you a tan?

Does a normal black light cause tanning?
Most likely, yes. Black lights and tanning lights (fluorescent tubes) are similar in that they use a mercury discharge to generate ultraviolet light. In a standard fluorescent tube used for lighting, the inside of the tube is lined with a mineral powder that fluoresces when hit by ultraviolet light and glows with visible light. There is still some UV light that makes it through, and I have a lamp with one of the earlier screw-in fluorescent substitutes that uses a circular tube. The lamp shade has been destroyed by the small amount of UV light coming through over the years. This is likely to emerge as an issue if incandescent bulbs are banned, especially when illuminating artwork. Tanning tubes allow more UV light through, and I'd imagine blacklight tubes let the most UV light through of all.

Self tanning lotion?!? and FACE self tan lotion?

whats a good brand??

something that turns u brown NOT orange!?

Self tanning lotion?!? and FACE self tan lotion?
If you are willing to spend a little more money (approx. $20, maybe more :/), then Mystic Tan is probably the best color and lasts the longest.

If you want to spend a lot less money and stay in, try using Jergens natural glow.
Reply:I like Jergens..but my advice would be to go a shade lighter than you think you need. When ppl go too dark..its b/c they choose a shade thats too dark for their skin. AND Jergens now has lotion for face and body! Try it!
Reply:I had bad experience with lotions, go get tan in tan-studios ore catch some sun, -lotions no no!!!
Reply:I use Jergens daily moisturizing lotion, it really works, in like 5 days your already c a subtle development of color.
Reply:For all information and details about tanning please check out http://use-tanning.blogspot.com/

Self tan lotion or tanning bed?

Tanning is tacky, tanned skin is a dated look. Pale is in. If you want to wrinkle prematurely and look like a wrinkled cougar by the time you hit 30 than get in a tanning bed. If not, cover up, wear sunscreen and be nice to your skin.

Self tan lotion or tanning bed?
tanning bed.
Reply:If you really feel that you need to have color opt for the self tanning stuff. I can tell you from my own personal experience that even the mildest form of melanoma is not fun.
Reply:Self-tan spray....Neutrogena has a great one. I spent many years in the tanning bed when I was younger and my skin has the appearance of being that of a long time smoker. Gotta go with the spray!
Reply:Tanning bed...the one I use is a "megabed", has air conditioning, ionizer, aromatheraphy, I started out at 3 minutes, worked up to 10 minutes max and after 9 sessions, I have a beautiful tan. I've used those self tanning lotions in the past and all of them streaked.
Reply:using a tanning bed in your 20s or younger even just once will put you at a 75% risk for a melanoma which could become cancer. tanning beds are not worth the risk. self tanner is the way to go. i use the dove energy glow moisturizer which builds up to a nice tan. also, spray on tans are good, but i find the lotion easier to use.
Reply:tanning bed
Reply:If you burn easily from the sun, tanning beds aren't a good idea. I would try a sunless tan from a tanning salon or spa. Mystic tan is a good one and so is Hollywood tan. You basically stand in a booth and get sprayed in 10 second intervals from head to toe. The color lasts for 7-10 days.

I wouldn't go too dark though because you can look orange.

Or I would try Jergens Healthy Glow. It's a lotion with sunless tanner in it that slowly colors the skin over a week or so period. They have it for your face too.
Reply:Tanning bed, if you don't mind the risks.
Reply:Neither.

Best Gradual Self Tanning Moisturizer???

I've used Dove Energy Glow, and it makes me look a bit orange...and i used the right shade..for fair skin.

I've used Loreal Sublime Bronze for a long time..and it gave me great color but smelled gross and felt icky.

So what other gradual self tanner can i use?

I'm thinking about Jergens Natural Glow...I've heard great things about it.

Best Gradual Self Tanning Moisturizer???
Jergens works pretty well but you really need to make sure you get an even all over coat or else you get spots of white and spots of orange and its not pretty and you need to wash it off your hands too
Reply:jergens works well! so does olay touch of sun.
Reply:i use Jergens and I like it. good color.
Reply:I use Banana Boat EveryDay Glow. It doesn't make me look orange at all! :-)
Reply:Use Jergens it works well!!!

Mystic Tan or tanning booth??

Mystic Tan makes you look nasty. Tanning booths ruin your skin. Don't artificially tan.

Mystic Tan or tanning booth??
Mystic Tan... tanning booths do not protect you against skin cancer.

What is the best kind of tanning spray??

i want to get a tan and don't say it's not healthy or something just don't say ANYTHING unless its about what is the best brand. i would definetly prefer spray and i just want to know which is the best kind of bronzer/tan in a can. =]

What is the best kind of tanning spray??
well i used loreal sublime glow...it worked pretty well and i think that spray gives you a good tan bc its pretty even and your hands arent orange!! lol but the thing is you might look a little orange.. but really i had a good tan %26amp; just a few orange spots
Reply:banana boat!!

you can control the tan AND you can spray it literally anywhere
Reply:I've tried many, many products and the one I find best is Loreal sublime bronze tinted self-tanning lotion. I would not suggest sprays ( more drying too the skin)
Reply:i use bath and body works bronzers they have alot of different kinds of bronzers and tanners . they sprays lotions creams. so try that out i use there spray solar power. it doesn't leave any tanning lines or any thing

Does tanning in a tanning bed "cook" a females eggs?

I know you cant believe everything you read, but I read this in a magazine. Does this have any truth to it?

Does tanning in a tanning bed "cook" a females eggs?
Tanning beds are Ultraviolet radiation, to cook our eggs would require microwave radiation. The two have vastly differant frequencies.
Reply:..I doubt it. Althought I've never used a tanning bad and i'm sort of against them, because it doesn't give that natural tan, ya' know? But if that were true, wouldn't it also be true that lying in the sun for a few hours could also 'cook' a female's eggs. Yeah?

Not too sure, but im guessing its not true.

Never heard that one before!

take care,

xx
Reply:I sure hope not. Maybe if you stay in a tanning bed for a really long time but I doubt it.
Reply:I wouldnt think so but y not get out of the tanning bed and do it naturally because tanning beds are also known as Cancer in a box and if u like paying for cancer then well go right ahead
Reply:I never heard of that. Probably not true or there'd be law suits coming out of the tanning salon's butts.
Reply:No. No more than laying out in the sun on a beach would. I know many woman who practically live in tanning booths year round who have had children. They all look like leather handbags now (in their 30's and 40's), so the only thing they're cooking is their selves.
Reply:Not true. :)
Reply:I think if we take the time to answer these questions we could take the time to find out what a "fact" is verses an "opinion" right? I think if we know the answer , then great if we do not know then we really should nt be giving our opinions unless someone has asked for them.

Anyone got any tips for the tanning bed?

i went today for ten mins, i usualy burn the first couple of times, but i get color quick, but i want to be really tan. and i wanted to see if anyone had tips to get my whole body and face tan! thanks

Anyone got any tips for the tanning bed?
go once a week or every other week. they try to tell you to go like 3 times you'll end up looking weird. gradually start using a stronger bed. once a month do a stand up tan with your arms up to tan underneath your arms where you can't normally tan while laying down. definitely use the lotions they have there, it really helps the color stay. and when you're done applying the lotion wash in between your fingers where the lotion gets caught it'll end up turning it darker after a while. once every like 5 weeks do an extra tan just for your face
Reply:Tanning beds are becoming increasingly popular. When i was working in a beauty salon we wouldnt let anyone use a bed for more then 10 minutes a week because the customers were exposing themselves to skin cancer causing light. As well as the fact that the rays age your skin. Use it too much and by the time you are 50 you will look 75 the damage to the skin is irreversible
Reply:Mystic Tan...you can get such a deep, dark, rich tan with Mystic and looks way better then a bed/booth will ever make you look. The bed will just make you look old and give you skin cancer.

Also, they won't allow you to go twice in one day, well the place I used to go to didnt, and if they do they're not running the place properly. Remember your skin needs time to regenerate.

I know what its like to look in the mirror after getting a tan and absolutely loving it, but the risks out weigh the benefits.

Please I beg you, don't go overboard and end up giving yourself skin cancer.

Try Mystic Tan or even self tanners...you can look beautiful without putting yourself in danger.

Take care and stay safe!

Reply:You can go twice in one day, just don't do that all the time! I just started tanning earlier this week. I'm super white and it usually takes me a month or so to get to my base color. Make sure you go as often as you can or every other day until you've achieved your desired color. Try using quality lotions, Breeze makes a great product. Avoid using products with bronzers, they only stain your skin and you end up looking kinda fake and have that annoying self-tanner smell. Lotions with tingle always speed up the process too. Hope I helped:)
Reply:it causes cancer.
Reply:make sure you get one of those playboy bunnies there cool .

don't forget to moisturize because most if not all the people that go to booths look like old leather.
Reply:no. they wont let you, its usually a 24hour period until u can go again. if u burn, do the lowest power bed at a really low time.
Reply:First, its not good to burn to get darker. Try a body tanning lotion, and add a facial tanning lotion. Also you usually cant go twice in one day, and its unhealthy to go every day, try every other day. The key to a great tan is moderation. I know i tan at Palm Beach Mega Tan and they greatly watch for burning, and also dont allow members to tan more than once a day at any location. Go somewhere where there are a variety of types of beds, the stronger the bed, the more they cut the minutes down. Ask a salon for more information on tanning darker and ask them to recommend some lotions for you!
Reply:Tanning Can cause Skin Cancer.

I tan in the tanning bed and plan on stopping after a few weeks? is this really bad for me?

A family friend who only went tanning for a week was just diagnosed with life-threatening cancer caused from the bed. She has to go through extensive chemotherapy and treatments, and she still has a short life expactancy. I went tanning for a week or so before I knew about her, but I haven't been since. It's a waste of money - not only does it kill you and it horrible for your skin later on in life [wrinkles], your tan doesn't stay for that long.

I tan in the tanning bed and plan on stopping after a few weeks? is this really bad for me?
Yes as it puts you at great risk for skin cancer. Skin cancer doesn't care if you are 15 or 95.
Reply:yes, melanoma, wrinkles, sound familiar
Reply:Yes it is, your chance for getting melanoma is increased by 75%.
Reply:Yes. You can get skin cancer. Take my advice and don't do it.
Reply:bad for you, but good for the rest of us who dont have to look at your pasty white azz
Reply:Tanning or stopping??? Tanning is one of the worst or probably the worst things women do to their skin.
Reply:Tanning beds are pretty bad for you but I do it if I'm going somewhere sunny because if I already have a tan I'm less likely to burn. They definitely give you wrinkles though, which is the least dangerous of what they can cause.
Reply:Well yes and no. Yes depends on how many times you tan. If you are young by tanning it will make you look really old fast. When you get like 40 you will be saggy. and No because you might need it.
Reply:You've heard how you can get skin cancer if you expose yourself too much to the sun? you may look good for a bit but you will wrinkle earlier, you can get ugly spots on your face, melanomas. Well bed tanning is worse. Avoid it like the plague. I've heard you can be sprayed with something that makes you look like you have a tan. You ought to find out about that.
Reply:The side affects from tanning is the possibility of changing skin cells that will lead to skin cancer. It is not worth it, if in the end you have to start having skin cancer removed from your body. I worked in a dermatology clinic and twice a week assisted with skin cancer surgeries. Buy tanning pills, GNC sells them

Does Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice) use tanning beds or sunless tanner?

I think she has a great looking tan compared to other celebrities.

Does Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice) use tanning beds or sunless tanner?
i would assume sunless tanning.. since her skin still looks great.. and she can afford it.. unless she does the cocktail which includes using a bed...

but my guess is sunless..
Reply:Why does it matter?
Reply:She uses an Easy Bake oven. Wait until she reaches her late 30's early 40's and she has skin that looks like an alligator handbag.
Reply:Wait, she's under the tanning bed now...so I would say she uses a bed.....But don't quote me on that cause it could be someone else that looks just like her.....I would have to say I don't know...

Im a self tanning virgin....Help!?

Whats the best self tan you can get on the high street? I'd like a light, non streaky one, reasonably priced.

%26amp; how do you apply it to your back

%26amp; not make your bed linen go brown..?!!

Ta

Im a self tanning virgin....Help!?
jergens natural glow works pretty well.

most important rule: rub the self tanning lotion in ALL THE WAY. make sure its all soaked it..otherwise you will have streaks, which is unnattractive..and if you apply too much in one area..u may turn out orange (ewww)
Reply:Congratulations!

There are not many virgins of any kind around now.

A quick dry version would be best.
Reply:just get a johsons,Loreal don't go over the top with price the cheaper ones are just as good,,get a bath sponge on put a dollop on it and just rub it in,i find its better this way it dos'nt seem to go streaky, sorry can't give u advice on your back thoe,,but if u find out how to do it,let me know.good luck.....exfoliate before u start putting it on,,
Reply:Ok if your doing it yourself the first thing to do is exfoliate. this will help you get an even colour. if you don't do this any patches of even slightly dry skin will appear darker. next use gloves or your hands and nails will get hella stained. then about 30 before you apply the product moisturize your skin with a light lotion(nothing too heavy) this will help whatever product you use to blend better when you put it on. after that it all depends on what product your using. Aveda has a good one called SUN SOURCE. but what ever you do BLENDING is the key make sure you spread it evenly, it might even help to have a friend come over to check the areas you cant reach. Good luck !!!!! and have fun with your glow.
Reply:Use St Tropez, better to get someone else to do your back to be honest. If you have rinsed the product off after 6-8 hours you shouldn't get any on yours sheets. I use it and make sure I put my old bed sheets on before I hop in.
Reply:get two-l'oreal and boots own brand do a spray for your back-i find the sprays a bit yuk for my other bodyparts, and if you can find "geltan" on boots.com it smells nice, looks natural especially on fair skin.or try the moisturisers with hint of selftan in them too they are very reasonably priced,is one called summer skin-johnsons and dove do one each.less likely to show mistakes as they are not dark at all.

wear disposable gloves-chemists sell them cheaply.

exfoliate really well for a few days, and moisturise too,

first time you try it mix it with moisturiser and do it a few hours before you go to bed -go easy on the amount you use.....

you can then build it up to the shade you like, keep exfoliating every other day,and moisturising ,and use baby wipes to tackle streaks.

most selftans give hints for their own one on the bottle

.your skin will be so soft!
Reply:book in2 a salon and get a spray tan
Reply:go to a tanning salon they can spray you it last for about 2 weeks
Reply:Piz Buin is good or Boots, having trouble applying it to my back, I got a long handled wooden kitchen spoon, wrapped a baby wipe round it held in place with a hair clasp, then applied the foam or cream with it. I found the foam product easier, dried quicker.
Reply:you can't reach your back?

hints to keep in mind:

no glycerine in your products

take a shower the day before tanning and shave everything that needs shaving. exfoliate well. use sugar mixed with your favorite liquid cleanser if you can't find a good one.

use moisturizer before tanning products.

if you are using a lotion tanner mix it with 1/2 lotion to apply.

apply extra moisturizer to elbows and knees and heels and fingertips.

Any way to remove spray on tanning products?

My 16 year old decided to do this without informing me, only so I could guide her as to how to... Now she gets up this morning with really bright orange/bronze hands, arms and feet. She is just sick and cannot go out anywhere. AND IT'S SUMMER. She is a very light complected girl with blond hair and desperately wants a tan. I just never wanted her to tan in a bed for safety reasons. Any help would be appreciated.

Sincerely,

Elaine

Any way to remove spray on tanning products?
i read in Seventeen magazine to Use Lemon Juice on the streaks or areas with the tanner and it should get it off
Reply:You go girl. I praise you for keeping her out of the tanning beds! Have you tried rubbing alcohol? They actually make self tanning remover now, you can get it at Walmart even. I guess they realized how many of us make these mistakes. Does she look like a OOMPA LUMPA, you know the orange guys off of Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory? hehe just joking. Good luck and once again, way to go ! Stick with your gut on the tanning beds. I read an article in Cosmo or Glamour one just last month about an early 20's Miss America contestant that was diagnosed with skin cancer caused by years of tanning in t beds and has had to have numerous surgeries and has scars all over her now because of this. You are a good mom ! Kudos.
Reply:Believe it or not, it only takes a couple of days to wear off. I remember doing the same thing t myself, many years ago! I was 15 and my mom didn't bother to deal with makeup or tanning as long as I didn't walk around looking like a hooch. And who knows, even if you had helped, it could still have failed. just wait a couple of days and all will be well. She's still a smart cookie for not using a tanning bed.

What type of tanning bed should i use??

there are like different kinds of names for all of them.

i've only done spray tan so I don really know wich ones are best or what kind or type/?.

What type of tanning bed should i use??
the names vary depending on the place. your best bet is to go into whichever one is one level down from their top bed. this way you don't burn but you still get a very effective tan. hope this helps.

Do you use sunblock when you tan in a tanning bed??

some of my friends do and some of them dont, does it make a difference in your tan???

Do you use sunblock when you tan in a tanning bed??
If you want a tan, i would suggest NOT wearing a sunblock on your body, but still make sure you use a lip balm with SPF in it to protect your lips. The tanning lotions that we sell at our salon do not have sunblock, and I know most others don't. That way you get optimal tan results. Try using an accelerator lotion or a bronzing tanning lotion. If you don't want to spend the money at the salon, Walgreens/CVS or any drug store should carry indoor tanning lotion, but you really should wear some sort of lotion when you tan because dry skin reflects 70 percent of the UVA UVB rays.
Reply:Tanning in a tanning bed is the surest way of getting skin cancer.

If you really are so desperate to look baked use a sunblock.
Reply:idk my self but dont go in those my sis doesnt any more after she say final destnation 3 lol in the tanning bed eww lol
Reply:either way, you're asking for skin cancer

be careful what you wish for....you might get it....
Reply:use tanning lotion
Reply:no that is why you go to tanning beds
Reply:ummmm...you are in a tanning bed....tanning your skin. Sunblock blocks the tanning rays. What your friends are using is tan enhancers, not sunblock. What they are using are the opposite of sunblock.
Reply:I have stopped doing tanning beds, but when I was doing them, I wore number 30 sunblock. I would NEVER suggest a tanning bed, or laying in the sun to anyone. Skin cancer has been in my family for that very reason, and often you don't know you even have it. It can be in your scalp under your hair, it can be on the bottom of your feet, it can be in your pubes where you can't see it, etc. Don't do it. Your life is not worth being tan. I use self-tanning lotions now, and have gotten really good at applying them to where they look natural. Loreal Supreme Bronze is a good one.
Reply:I do not recommend tanning at a bed. However, if you feel it necessary and do not want to listen to the health warnings...then make sure you wear sunscreen! Your skin is highly exposed to UV lighting in the bed, so you will burn easily. The sunscreen will give you protection and you will still tan, but in increments. This way you are at least protecting your skin from continuous burning, which can result into skin cancer if you're not careful!
Reply:No. Tanning can give you skin cancer, so first of all, don't do it. But if you choose to, you won't get very good results if you use sunscreen in the tanning bed...
Reply:No the sunblock blocks the tanning bed rays and doesnt get you tan.If you use an spf 4 then thats not going to block the sun much so thats ok.You should use a lotion though. Not with a sunblock if you want a tan.I got my lotion from target. Its for tanning indoors and out and only 8$After you tan make sure to shower and then put on a moisturizing lotion speaking tanning drys your skin.
