Does tanning cause leathery skin when you get older if you tan when youre younger, like fifteen, sixteen?

THE REAL DAMAGE before 21 is that 2 or more blistering sunburns while you are still growing greatly increases your chance of melanoma later in life - one of the most malignant cancers there is. If you have already had such sunburns, stop tanning and use sunscreen - (and fake tan if you have to).

The damage is cumulative. If you tan a lot - living poolside all summer with no sunscreen - yes, you could accumulate enough damage when you are in your teens to last.

yes it does its not good for your skin
Reply:YES! Don't do it.
Reply:knew a women once that tanned every summer when she was young. She was beautiful.

Now her face looks like the bottom of a shoe.
Reply:Definitely. You skin is the largest organ on your body and you should protect it. You can try makeup like bronzers to give you that nice healthy glow without damaging your skin. Tanning also makes you look older much sooner. Trust me, I live in Miami, I know so. I see them everywhere!
Reply:It can- but it's continual exposure over the years that really does it to your face. It will also depend on your natural complexion and skin type.

I had a friend in high school that I would always tan with-

she was naturally darker than I was and was much more successful at getting a real tan. When I went to college I was warned about all my sunspots and I started using sunscreen. She kept tanning, since it looked good on her.

Now when people see us they think I'm 10 years younger than her, though I am 2 years older.
Reply:I am from Ireland, and had typical fair freckly skin - used to burn the second I saw the sun. I moved to San Diego when I was 23 and lived there for 3 years - got more sun in 3 years than most Irish people see in a lifetime. I used to pride myself on the fact that people always thought that I looked a lot younger than I actually am. Since I moved back from America, most people think I am a good few years older than I actually am. I have even noticed myself that my skin looks and feels different since spending so much time in the sun in America.

Like people are saying - the skin is the largest organ of the human body, and you really need to take care of it. Tanning on the beach or on a sunbed blasts your skin with harmful UVA and UVB rays that damage and age the skin rapidly. You ever seen that film "There's something about Mary" - remember the old lady with the dog in it - she is what is known as a steroetype! Go onto any beach in Californai, and I guarantee you that you will see at least a dozen old ladies that look exactly like her after spending years tanning! They may have looked like a bronzed barbie doll when they first started when they were 15 or 16, but now they are leathery old hags!

Have you ever seen the back of a Farmer's neck - that leathery, criss-crossed tough brown skin!?!?! That is caused by the sun!

Apart from the aesthetic aspects of it all, there's the whole cancer aspect of things! my aunt has lived in South Africa most of her life, and has had more cancerous thingies removed from her face that anyone I have ever heard of before!!! Her doctor has told her purely and simply it is from the sun!!!

Do yourself a favor - buy a good self-tanning cream or bronzer!!!!
Reply:I used to work in a tanning bed and NO it will not- unless you go everyday for 30 minutes!!!! Just don't over do it and you will be fine! I would suggest always covering your face though- only exposing it for about 5 minutes- to reduce wrinkles!! :)
Reply:yes it does and not to mention that tanning will make you look a lot older than you really are when you are older.. you don't want to be 25 and look 37 do you AND it causes SKIN CANCER.. you will have leathery skin, look old and die young! I would NOT recommend tanning!
