Self tanning lotions or tanning beds?

What do you think it works better?

Self tanning lotions or tanning beds?
Five Things to Think About Before YOU Use a Tanning Bed:

It's boring. Don't you have better things to waste your time on?

Do you really want to lay in something called a "coffin bed"?

Do you really know who used the bed before you?

The wrinkled raisin look is totally out this season.

You increase your risk of getting skin cancer

Most people think that tanning beds can tan their skin safely without any of the hazardous side effects. Too bad that is completely FALSE! There is no such thing as a healthy tan.

Tanning beds give off at least twice as much ultraviolet (UV) radiation as the sun does. The rays from a tanning bed are long-wave (UVA) rays instead of short-wave (UVB) rays that you get from the sun. UVA rays don't burn your skin like UVB rays do, but they do bore deeper into your skin and cause more permanent damage.

Many tanning lamps also emit UVB radiation. One brand of lamp was found to emit as much UVB as the noontime sunlight in the summer in New York.

The combination of UVA and UVB radiation can result in burning the eyes cornea. Longtime exposure can result in irreversible damage and cataracts.

Why Is a Sunless Tan Better?

The number one reason and most obvious is NO SUN DAMAGE. NO risk of skin cancers from tanning lotions as opposed to lying in tanning "beds" or in the natural sun for hours. Even color, rain or shine, summer or winter, in Florida or Iceland. Convenient, fast color when you need it, on demand. Have a last minute photo shoot tomorrow but are pale as a ghost - sunless tan tonight.

Are you pale? Naturally burn and/or don't wish to damage your skin to attain a bronze look. Need to supplement your existing tan? Don't have time to get a real tan or fake bake but still need color? If the above fits you and you do not have any abnormal skin lesions, anomalies or conditions (with the exception of psoriasis) - you may consider sunless tanning to achieve a deep, dark tan - easily.

Most sunless tanning lotions contain an active ingredient known as dihydroxyacetone, or simply DHA. DHA is a colorless sugar that reacts with the protein in the outer (horny, or "dead) layer of the skin to stain it a darker bronze color. As the outer layer natural exfoliates, you lose your tan. No magic here.

Use well-known, high quality products to increase your chances of receiving the intended tan without problems. You should expect even, bronze color within 24 hours, with no itching or any kind of irritation. The lotion is supposed to tan your skin for an average of 4 to 7 days. From the 48 hour period start expecting your tan to fade slowly. You may see patchy areas if you haven't exfoliated well beforehand.

** I like sumless tanning best because they also contain moisturizers (jergens has out a new moisturizer that alos gradually adds a healthy glow that I love!), whereas after a while tanning beds dry the skin out **
Reply:For me I have found that tanning beds work better. I have found some self tanning lotions that I like however none seem as good as actually tanning.

However they are safer then tanning.
Reply:neither becaz each gives way more UV rays than u really need....sunlight is way better
Reply:I prefer lotion because I dont trust anything that I can get locked in and die. Plus I dont want to get burnt.
Reply:Tanning beds definately, lotions tend to leave you and your hands orage or brown color. You will get an even tan in the beds also. Tan naked or with panties on!
Reply:well tanning beds work better but without a doubt are dangerous and so not worth it in the future. I'm 28 and have had a tanning bed addiction since I was 24 and I'm starting to see freckles and such that weren't there before, nothing gross but you can tell it really does effect your skin. You will not be disapointed by jergens natural glow (takes about 3 days to develop, looks amazing) best self tanner, hands down is neutrogena self tanning foam, and last but not least lorael sublime bronze works very well too, these all last for days and look great. Try to stay away from the beds. PS - i have to add if you do opt for the beds DO NOT tan toppless it can cause skin cancer in your nipples, not a myth you can even check that one out on webmd.
Reply:Self-tanners. Just find one that looks natural and not orange, and if it has SPF, then that's even better.

And for god's sake, wash your hands after you apply the self-tanner! If you want to tan the backs of your hands, apply tanning lotion with a makeup sponge or cotton ball, or get the spray-type.

Even if you're not afraid of skin cancer (which you should be), tanning beds or any extreme tanning can still cause your skin to wrinkle prematurely. Do you want to look like old leather someday?
Reply:tanning lotion is alot safer and cheaper but beds give you a better tan..Beds you can just lay there and the job gets done. Lotions you have to make sure you spread it evenly so you don't look like a spotted giraffe..Its also alot more complicated then it seems.Making sure you got all the parts of your body not spots left without girl just go tanning don't want the same thing that happen to me to happen to you..I look like a 5 foot giraffe LOL
Reply:NEVER, ever use a tanning bed or lay in the sun. It is a sure way to get wrinkles, ages spots and leathery skin. It is also the cause of skin cancer. Use sun block when you are in the sun and use a self tanning product if you want to get a nice even tanned look.
Reply:Tanning beds work better on me, but I try to use more self tanner. Although I have found that the self tanner works better with a base tan.
Reply:I don't want a tan
Reply:Ok some of these answers I find quite funny,

1. Self tanning lotions don't attracted more UV lights

2. You don't lock your self into tanning beds, they're times and after usually 10-20 minutes it turns off.

I use both, tanning in the beds is quicker and it makes sure its an all over tan.

the graduale tanning lotions are my favorite, this way the more you use it the tanner you become over time, it looks more natural then the other tanning lotions, just look at target or victoria secret for teh tanning lotions.

When i go into the beds though i either cover my face or use a high SPF on my face and chest because you can use bronzer to darken those areas so you don't get as many wrinkles when your older.

So i would say a combination of both works!
Reply:Mystic tan. It's a spray-on tan that lasts 5-7 days. You can choose your level of darkness and choose from a bronzer that tans your skin immediatly, or let you tan naturally develop in 4-6 hours!
Reply:thank GOD neither.
Reply:you can use tanning lotion not beds. i think neither because it damages your skin i would soak the sun up and keep applying sun cream/lotion and the after sun lotion at bed.if you do not use this lotion you could get wrinkles at early age.do not let your self get burned because i was one of them and i had to keep applying lotion on holiday and it really canned(hurt).
Reply:both have their pros and cons...beds: quick, but can be uneven (has anyone else ever gotten the white spot right above their **** crack? or under arms?) and they are super dangerous for your skin. lotions: MUCH safer, but if used incorrectly, can be unnatural looking. now they make lotions almost foolproof..just make sure to wash your hands well when you're done applying...and that Jurgens lotion really does work well!
Reply:I think that tanning beds are better as long as you don't go overboard with them.Only lay for about 10 min at a time for maybe 2 to 3 times a week depending. I wouldn't use tanning lotion because you never know how it's going to turn our and then after you do it your stuck with it. I know some tanning lotions leave streaks and some turn you orange (yes orange) I've seen it happen to my step-mom.I myself prefer the all natural way of laying out in the sun for a little while. but what ever you do make shore if it's for an occasion that you shave your legs before you tan because you remove most of your tan if you shave after.
Reply:tanning bed but isnt that considered to be self tanning also lol
